Types of
infiltrations

Malware
The term malware refers to any type of malicious software, including viruses, worms, trojans, spyware and adware.
Virus
A computer virus corrupts existing files on your computer. It has the capability to replicate from one computer to another across the network, parasiting on various host applications.
Trojans
Trojans are a broad category of malware. Basically, their purpose is to infiltrate the system and accomplish their malicious goals (download additional malware, drop infiltrations otnto the system, establish hidden communication channels, etc.) on the background.
Spyware
Spyware is a program that uses tracking functions to harvest sensitive data, such as passwords, and send them to a remote attacker. Typically bundled with free software, spyware requires the user’s consent before installation.
Adware
Adware applications will often automatically open a new pop-up window containing advertisements in an Internet browser, or change its homepage. In and of itself, adware is not dangerous – users only may be bothered with advertisements. Its danger lies in the fact that adware may also perform tracking functions (as spyware also does).
Botnet
Botnet is a network of infected computers, controlled remotely by an attacker. A Botnet network can be used to carry out an attack on a server. The user of such infected computer is usually not aware that this is happening.
Spam
Unsolicited messages, or spam, are bulk messages send to multiple users. The most frequently used channel for disseminating spam is email, but other forms are used as well: SMS messages, blogs, internet browsers, social networks, etc...
Phishing
Phishing (password fishing).  The term defines a criminal activity which uses techniques of social engineering in order to obtain confidential information, such as bank account numbers, PIN codes, etc. Unsuspected users are usually directed to a fake website that looks authentic.
Evil Twin
Also known as wireless phishing, the Evil twin method consists of setting up a rogue wireless network, masked as a one created by a legitimate provider. The acquired data are subsequently used for illegal financial gain or other malicious purposes.
Hacker
The term Hacker has acquired lot definitions over time. Some sources differentiate between a hacker and a cracker. The former being a programmer trying to discover security holes without misusing them, while cracker is someone whose main purpose is to cause damage. Now enter hacktivism, which refers to spreading political and ideological ideas by means of hacking.
